In His time

IN HIS TIME

Mario D’Couto

“What is the time?” I am sure that this a question that we all ask during the day at some moment during the day. But if we were to just remove the article “the” from the question that was just mentioned previously, it would be something like this, “What is time?” Both are not the same and in fact the latter has a very deep meaning.

If I were to ask, “When did time begin!” or “How do we get our idea of what time is or what is not?” one thing we can only say that it is only a “mystery”.

In one of my previous articles/blog posts/articles where I wrote about “Time”, I mentioned that we could understand it as an analogy or a comparison to the breath of God. We are not mere accidents in this world. We are not arbitrary! In Psalm 139:16, it is written, “You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breath. Every day was recorded in Your book” Time is definitely a mystery.

John Mason, in his book, “Know your limitations – Then ignore them”, writes the following words, “Life is lived in seasons which means that we can succeed best by doing different things at different times.” This quote is similar to what Hugh Prather said, “There is a time to let things happen and a time to make things happen.” This quotation brings to my mind the story of Noah. Imagine God coming from nowhere and asking someone to make something out of nothing. It is said that it took Noah 120 years to build the ship and this ship was built in the most unlikely of places – his backyard. But yet, we know that despite all this, he never gave up amidst the criticism that he received.

It was in His good time that the weather began to change. This is what the phrase, “In His time” means. There are enough and more ways to prove this point from scripture. Our Lady, Hezekiah, Ezekiel and many other are classic examples.

Sometimes, it seems as though God purposely delays just to see our reaction. But that does not mean we have to give up. He will keep His promises but only in His time. No wonder the words of that famous hymn, “In His time”, makes so much sense,

In His time
In His time
He makes all things beautiful
In His time
