Nature - God's gift to the human person

NATURE – GOD’S GIFT TO THE HUMAN PERSON

Cl. Mario D’Couto SDB

“Technology has no limits!” This is something that has been said on and off and this is precisely because it is thanks to the various discoveries and innovations of science that our lives have changed.

However, while this is true indeed, it is also interesting to note that there are some very essential things in life which we heavily depend on but it is something we cannot produce. These include the sun, the rain, the wind the moon, the stars, fire and all other aspects of nature.

When I look at technology today, I am baffled at its process. Who would ever think that sixty or seventy years ago we would be handling cell phones or making distant communication look like as though the person was at close range? Who would think two hundred or three hundred years ago, the human person would land on the moon? Technology has really taken us to great heights. But all the same, for all the sophisticated technology that we use, we are still dependent on the forces of nature such as earth, fire, wind, water and other elements of nature, all of which come from God. What use would it be if we had solar heaters, solar cookers, solar light and no sun? What use would all our gadgets be if we did not have electricity which basically comes from water? These and many more questions can be raised.

We, as children of God, are called to be the stewards of His creation and this entails a twofold responsibility:  to be faithful to Him and to take care of His creation.
