The Power of Vision
THE
POWER OF VISION

Each of us is destined for something
great. None of us is a piece of junk and thus in order to realize the true
worth in us, it is important that we need to be people of vision.
Life, in order to have meaning, has
to be directed towards a particular goal. Yes, it is important to grow
through life and not just go through life. Yet, our growth has
to have a certain direction. It is like saying a person could allow the plants
in his garden to grow anyhow, if he does not want to see it kept neat and
clean. But if he wants to see it neat and clean, then care should be taken to
make sure that it does not grow that way. The same could be said about keeping
one’s hair.
The point that we can draw out from
these two illustrations is that, the fact that we take care of something
implies that we will the good of that particular thing as in the case of one’s
garden or hair. Hence, in this case, the beauty of the garden or the hair
becomes the good and the care taken to achieve the purpose becomes the means.
Hence it is important to keep our
eyes focused on our goals. I would like to conclude this short refection by
highlighting one of the Gospel incidents which involve Jesus and Peter. In one
the many encounters between Jesus and Peter, there is that famous incident
where Jesus walks on the water and invites Peter to walk with Him. As it is
written in the Scriptures, as long as Peter kept his eyes fixed on Jesus and
moved towards Him, nothing happened. But the minute he took his eyes of Jesus
and became conscious of the water, he slowly began to drown until he cried out,
“Save me Lord.”
I guess that this particular
incident from the Gospel serves as a good analogy of our own selves. We begin
to bloom spiritually when we fix our eyes on the person of Christ and strive to
imitate Him.
