The hidden logic of success - Part 3
THE
HIDDEN LOGIC OF SUCCESS – PART 3
Mario D’Couto
In the first and second parts to the hidden logic of
success, we seen that success comprises of regular practice besides placing
yourself in the right setting which will help you become what you desire to be
and also to achieve your goals. There is, however, a third dimension to it and
that is ADAPTABILITY.
Among all the living species on planet earth, humans have
far succeeded because of their unique ability to adapt to changing
circumstances. When we compare ourselves to the rest of creation in terms of
physical strength, speed or other such phenomenon, we may not be able to
compete. But we do have this one unique quality that has helped us overcome all
odds and that is our ability to think. Because of this feature, we have gone to
the far ends of the earth, colonised new territories, invented new things and
much more. The gift of rationality comprises of 2 things, the first is the
aspect of us being self – conscious and the other is the ability to
communicate. True, animals, too, have this ability but it is not sophisticated
or complex as ours.
Bruce Lee, the King of Kung Fu, and a great human being
once said, “Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. If you put water
in to a bottle, it becomes the bottle. If you put water into a tea-pot, it
becomes the tea-pot. Now water can flow, it can creep and it can crash. Be like
water, my friend.” He, himself, would say that the teacher is not one
who gives the truth but points and shows the way to the truth. He always
encouraged questioning and knowing one’s self. Knowing who you are, where you are
at and where you want to go are the fundamental things. This is what makes the
anchor strong in your life.
For me, personally, I see life like the huge ocean and
each of us is surfing along on it. Just as a surfer adjusts his/her body to the
type of waves that come so that he/she would not get washed away by it, the
more we are able to adapt to the waves of life, those unexpected curves, loses,
disappointments, pains and failures, the more we will be able to move ahead and
not get washed by it or else we may drown ourselves with it.
For me, this is something that encompasses the previous
two parts for without this, one would not be able to devote the time required
to master one’s craft (which includes rapid reasoning and chunking information)
nor would one be able to think clearly about creating new avenues or ways about
achieving one’s goals in life.
It’s amazing how time flies. Life is short. Don’t waste
it! Don’t live with regrets! The choice is yours.
