Following Christ in the midst of suffering
FOLLOWING CHRIST IN THE MIDST OF SUFFERING
Cl. Mario D’Couto SDB
The
life of our Lord does not eliminate suffering nor does it provide a final
solution to suffering. His life, however, must become an essential element in
our Christian response. We can accept suffering as Christ accepted it, that is,
as devastatingly real but not necessarily as hopelessly final. He has risen and
in the Resurrection is our hope.
Christ
as the Way of Life is more than a truth to live by. He is a mystery to be adored
and contemplated. He is at once and the same time a paradox of the past, the
pattern for the present and a promise of the future. We cannot comprehend the
origin of the paradox, or the glory of the promise but we can believe in it and
live by it.
