Trust
TRUST
Cl. Mario D’Couto SDB
Trust
is perhaps the only human quality that makes our lives move on smoothly. Just
imagine, if we did not trust anyone, we would then always have to live in
constant suspicion of those around us. This is not to say that we should trust
anybody. Prudence is definitely required for we cannot burn our fingers for
nothing. Yet all the same, it would be the other extreme to doubt anything and
everything. A certain amount of trust is therefore necessary if we want to move
ahead in life.
There
are enough and more examples that can be cited in this regard. For all the
information that we get in the news and in our textbooks, it is not that we are
going to check each and everything personally. It is not possible to do that.
Most of the information that we get is obtained in all good faith and that is
precisely because we believe that is good and genuine.
If
we look at our lives, we will come to see that a lot of things we do and
experience are all based on trust. I know my mother and father will not me let
me down because I trust them; I know my cook is not going to poison by food
because she cooks it with a sense of respect and duty; I know that my
subordinates will carry out my commands because they trust me and I trust them;
I know that my superiors place my trust in me because they know that I am
capable of doing or carrying out that particular job.
Thus,
in all spheres of our life, we see how trust plays a crucial role not
forgetting that we should be prudent for while it is important to trust, we
cannot trust anything and everything.
