Learning from Failure
LEARNING FROM FAILURE
Cl. Mario D’Couto SDB
Failures
are part of success and hence it is important to dwell a little more on this
topic. There is nothing wrong in making mistakes. We all do that. A fool is one
who makes the same mistake twice. A person who makes a mistake and does not
correct it commits a bigger one. The best way to handle a mistake is,
1.
Admit
it quickly
2.
Don’t
dwell on it
3.
Learn
from it
4.
Don’t
assign any blame or make excuses (take responsibility)
One
important thing about failure is that we should not rationalize it; we should
have the guts to own up for our mistake. Winners analyze; they don’t
rationalize. Rationalizing is a loser’s game. Losers always have a book full of
excuses to tell you why they could not.
It
is also important to learn from our mistakes. People who do not learn from
history are doomed. Failure is a great teacher if we have the right attitude.
It is a delay, not a defeat. Experience is the name we give to our mistakes.
Some
people live and learn and some only live. Wise people learn from their
mistakes. Wiser people learn from other people’s mistakes. Our lives are not
long enough to learn only from our own mistakes.
